Making waves to help UK businesses save 2.9 billion litres of water

National water retailer Wave has helped its customers save 2.9 billion litres of water and offset 200 tonnes of carbon in the last year.

With Wave’s support, a number of businesses have seen a significant reduction in their water usage, along with their costs. Since partnering with Wave, Northumberland County Council have achieved significant savings, including a £39,000 saving at just one school, that would have otherwise been lost to water leakage. The National Trust, whose 700 sites are also serviced by Wave, have seen their annual water bill decrease by 13%, despite new sites being added to their portfolio.

With the UK’s predicted water shortage and businesses currently responsible for over a third of the UK’s water usage, Wave is passionate about minimising water waste through education and increasing awareness amongst its customers.

The sustainable savings follow the inception of Wave’s 2022/23 Social and Sustainability Promise. This pledge is an expression of Wave’s CSR goals, which focus on the social and environmental wellbeing of Wave, its people, planet, customers and community.

Wave has always placed a strong focus on its CSR activity and recognises its responsibility to respond to the current climate emergency and safeguard this for future generations through its sustainability commitments.

Tony March, Director of Public Sector and Industrial Customers at Wave, said: “As well as minimising the environmental impact of our own operations, our ambition is to influence, inspire and support our customers and employees to preserve the natural world around them.”

In addition to the natural resources saved, Wave has also given 427 hours of volunteering to beach cleans, habitat building and supporting local charities in addition to planting 320 trees, to support local communities and sustainability efforts.

Wave’s Social and Sustainability promise is well aligned with their ‘Not a Drop to Waste’ campaign that was launched in 2022, to raise awareness of the need to reduce business water consumption.
