An innovative Behaviour Change programme, to help drive Energy Efficiency measures in organisations globally
ESTA – Energy Services and Technology Association, jointly with the Energy Institute, have officially launched a new innovative training programme, which is aimed at focusing the mind of businesses and organisations of all types and sectors, both public and private, of the efficacy of using a holistic, structured behaviour change programme to supplement and enhance the use of technological solutions to use less energy.
EnCO is a global programme designed to encourage greater energy efficiency for all organisations using behaviour change as a bedrock. Behaviour change is the adaptation of human behaviour to make best use of technological solutions and to facilitate the reduction of energy usage.
The programme is both innovative and proactive – helping to promote an energy efficiency system that supports the technological solutions whilst offering a relatively quick payback period and a low-cost method of using less energy.
EnCO complements the global movements to save the planet, helping organisations to meet their net zero targets.
External consultants and key internal staff are now being trained to deliver the programme to all types of organisation. Once the course has been completed and the examination passed, the delegate will become a Registered EnCO Consultant. The submission of two case studies verified by our panel will lead to the consultant becoming an Approved EnCO Practitioner.
The programme will certify energy-conscious organisations, acknowledging the considerable benefits of their reduction of energy usage.
The benefits for energy consultants are:
- Skills upgrades
- New income streams
- Additional support for existing clients
- Proactive support of ESTA and the Energy Institute (EI)
The global training programme can be delivered face to face or online. It comprises of four, two-hour modules plus preparatory reading, totalling 10-12 hours of learning. The programme is delivered by ESTA, certified for CPD and accredited by ESTA and the EI.
Cost – free to ESTA members, EI RPEC members and MEI Chartered Energy Managers. £495+VAT, if applicable, to all others.

Who is the EnCO Training for?
Energy Managers/Engineers, Environmental Managers/Practitioners, Energy Consultants, M&E Specialists, Estates Managers and Energy Services and Technology Providers. Anyone interested in effecting behaviour change in organisations to save energy.
Behaviour change is a vital element of the energy efficiency across the economy needed on the road to net zero, often at lower cost than installation of physical measures or improving the savings of installed measures. There is evidence Lead Assessors and Energy Auditors may not be fully considering behaviour change as an important opportunity to reduce both energy bills and emissions. Therefore, there is a pressing need for upskilling in this area as assessors prepare for the next ESOS Phase.
The Energy Conscious Organisation (EnCO) online training course has been designed to equip Lead Assessors and energy auditors to identify and implement behavioural opportunities. The course is run on a not-for-profit basis by the Energy Services and Technology Association (ESTA) and the Energy Institute. It also provides CPD relevant to the continued learning that ESOS Lead Assessors should be doing to keep their knowledge up to date.
