DiPerk helps to power NHS urgent treatment centre

DiPerk Power Solutions is helping to deliver critical back up power for an urgent treatment centre at a leading Suffolk NHS Healthcare Trust Hospital.

DiPerk specified and supplied a powerful Perkins 4008TAG1A 1183 horsepower engine to specialist generator manufacturer G&M Euro Tex, part of the TEX Group, who manufacture bespoke critical backup power systems for airports, data centres and hospitals.

A power failure in any industry can be costly, but for the health sector it can be a matter of life and death. Backup generators provide a vital lifeline for hospitals who must have a continuous power source to supply everything from mechanical ventilators in intensive care, to medical imaging equipment and even lighting and lifts needed for safe movement around the building.

In this case DiPerk added a specialist heater system to the engine, to ensure the generator water and cooling system is maintained at a constant temperature and doesn’t freeze, meaning the system is able to accept load straight away should the national grid fail.

Phil Wakeman, Sales Manager at G&M Euro Tex explained genset packages for the NHS must be bespoke because their design must be in line with the Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) regulations, which includes being correctly sized to meet performance requirements.

He said: “We are increasingly supplying bespoke gensets to the UK industrial sector and have provided systems to clients including the National Grid, the UK Government, Hewlett Packard, and Siemens.

“This project is one of around five of this size we’ve completed this year which we’ve been awarded via competitive tender, with this one providing standby power for the urgent treatment centre.

“We chose DiPerk in this case because they were able to supply the exact size of engine and for the additional technical support they provide. Plus, we’ve been using Perkins engines since the business began and value their reliability and performance.

“We’ve been particularly impressed by the aftersales service from DiPerk. When we had a fault on an engine they responded quickly and got a replacement engine to us within three weeks.”

Jamie Gibbon, DiPerk engine sales representative, said: “We’re keen to grow our UK market for the 4000 series, and this project is a great example of how DiPerk support our specialist customers who need more than a standard engine.

“Providing emergency backup power systems for hospitals is one of the most important things we do here at DiPerk, and the 4008 engines have exceptional power-to-weight ratios and compact designs, making them simple to transport and install.

“In this case we supplied an engine heater and additional technical support to G&M Euro Tex which they needed for this particular bespoke design, and we pride ourselves on the fact we act as a trusted partner to customers providing support for those more complex repairs, installations and services.”
