Water and energy efficiency company Cenergist has been appointed by Kensington and Chelsea Council to help deliver a new heat network to benefit over 750 homes.
After a successful two-stage tender process, Cenergist will now support in delivering the council’s flagship, zero-carbon district heating network, Notting Dale Heat Network. The value of the contract is £12.67m.
Phase one of the Notting Dale Heat Network will create a 100 per cent renewable heat network that will serve 10 residential blocks at Lancaster West Estate in North Kensington.
The main heat source for the estate will be an air source heat pump, with each apartment benefitting from an upgraded heating system.
Cenergist’s scope for the project includes installing the distribution pipe work in each level of the residential blocks as well as the heating systems in each apartment. Acting as the principal contractor on-site, the company will also undertake all design work in-house. The work has a planned three-and-a-half-year delivery programme.
Oliver Abrahams, Head of Energy, at Cenergist, said: “We are very pleased to secure this contract and excited to work with Kensington and Chelsea Council to deliver the progressive and innovative Notting Dale Heat Network project.
“We look forward to delivering a project that is an investment into the zero-carbon future of the Lancaster West Estate. This will provide residents with a heating system that offers them reliable thermal comfort and control of their energy bills, a much-welcomed benefit during more turbulent times.”
This project is only phase one of the Notting Dale Heat Network, with future ambitions to extend the heat network to be borough wide.
In addition to the 757 homes at Lancaster West Housing Estate, the phase one of the heat network will also benefit the Kensington Aldridge Academy, Kensington Leisure Centre, and a number of business units for SMEs.
The 19 freehold homes within Lancaster West Estate will also be invited to use the heat network.

Cllr Sof McVeigh, lead member for housing management, housing safety and building new homes said:
“We’re the only authority in the UK introducing a heat network as part of a deep retrofit – it’s a huge challenge so having reliable experts in place is crucial. We’re proud to be taking the next step towards making Lancaster West Estate the biggest eco-neighbourhood in the UK and offering renewable, reliable energy to our residents, with a price promise until 2030.”
Cenergist supports local authorities and social housing providers to decarbonise their heating systems. As well as the UK, Cenergist also operates in Holland, Spain and India.
